My biggest triumph: I’ve never really had a job and I’m pretty much unemployable.Let’s step back a moment! I’ve always been a bit rubbish working in structured environments and being told what to do. Some of you are probably nodding profusely already. Because of this, I’ve always had my own hustles and side businesses - in fact, I almost got arrested for one of these ventures at the tender age of 11. That’s a story for another day. More recently I’ve moved my businesses online, teaching myself digital marketing and launching my first “proper” online business a few years back. This was a revelation - I could build businesses the way I wanted to, creating the lifestyle I desired all whilst providing massive value to the world. I’m a millennial, of course, I introduce myself and include my social media handle). I co-own a digital marketing agency, consult to companies that have an annual turnover of £10million+, and became financially independent through investing in the UK property market in my mid-20s.But it wasn't always that way. At 18 I followed a conventional (British Indian) path of becoming an engineer (railway specifically, if anyone’s curious) because I thought ‘Hey that’s a career that pays well, comes with prestige, and I can probably retire on the pension’. 5-6 years into this fabulous engineering career, I had hit a high tier salary, worked on-call 24/7, slept in a different room to my new wife in order for the phone not to wake her, answered emails whilst at parties and because of some strange fortune, avoided death by an oncoming train at 2 am whilst working on what was supposed to be a blocked railway line. After living close to a decade not on my terms I could not see myself doing that for another 30-40 years. So I radically changed my life's goal and what I focused on, ‘If it did not serve the goal of creating financial independence and a life on my terms - then it has no place in my mind or my life’. Which then led me on a path of accelerated learning and implementation to get where I am today, with so much exciting work yet to do.
