This book tells the truth about women who are leading—in business, in families, in communities all over the country. Women who have largely been silent—so they tell their stories in their own words, because words matter. Names matter. It all matters. What to expect as you move through the book:Establishing your values and creating boundaries to protect what you hold most dear.Knowing when to push harder, and when to rest for a bit.Recognizing when to work on the long run (marathon) versus sprinting through the quick takes.Training and conditioning to be a working mother/caregiver/hobbyist/partner/pet owner.Rest and rejuvenation is necessary every day—the idea of restoration of the Sabbath is good food for thought for she who leads. Even God rested on the seventh day. Why don’t we?!Questioning the who in “Whose vision are we seeing?” Ours? Our boss’s? Our spouse’s? Some social construct? Why is it necessary to understand the vision? And why should you create space for one of your own?Through this body of your own thoughts and journaling and discussing with friends and peers, and in putting in the work of applying the stuff that makes the most sense to you and for you. People matter, you matter, this matters.About the author:Holly Joy McIlwain graduated from Franciscan University in Steubenville in 2003 and spent years working with young people and families, schools, churches, health clubs, salons, and really anywhere that people gathered and talked about what was most important to them. After an exciting decade and a half of working, traveling, dating, and exploring all the best (and worst) parts of life, she met her husband Kevin, settled down, and got married. Just like that she became a mother, too! In heroic pursuit of a master’s degree at the ripe old age of 30-something, and pregnant again, she began rethinking career goals and created something different on her imaginary vision board. A hater of pop-psychology, lover of philosophy, and big time nerd about behavior sciences, Holly finished her master’s degree at Robert Morris University, had that beautiful second baby, and moved for the third (or fourth?) time since marrying the one who gave her the sweet last name (pronounced Mac-Ill-wane). Holly spends her days being a mom to two rambunctious and amazing boys, working in the leadership development and talent industry, and living life to the fullest. Holly’s been speaking and writing for the past nearly 20 years and can’t believe this is her first book.
